I have spent years building relationships with producers throughout the Langhe, tasting their wines, visiting their cellars and getting to know the families behind the bottles. I use that local knowledge to create a day that introduces you to some of the small, family-run producers I believe are truly worth knowing.

Along the way, we’ll taste exceptional Barolo and Barbaresco, meet the people who make them, explore the vineyards and villages of the Langhe, and enjoy a memorable lunch at one of my favorite local restaurants.

Barolo and Barbaresco are only a short distance apart, but they offer fascinatingly different expressions of Nebbiolo.

Rather than simply checking two famous names off your list, I’ll help you understand why these wines taste different, how the vineyards influence the wines, and what makes the Langhe one of the world’s most remarkable wine-growing regions.

We’ll spend the day moving through the countryside between Barbaresco and Barolo, stopping at carefully selected wineries along the way.

Morning Wine Tasting in Barbaresco

After breakfast, it’s time for your first wine tasting. Drive from Alba to Barbaresco, passing through the UNESCO-listed hills of Langhe. These rolling vineyards are breathtaking year-round—lush green in summer, snow-covered in winter, and blazing with red and gold foliage in autumn. In spring, on clear days, you can even spot the Alps in the distance.

At the winery, enjoy a guided tour by a family member, ending with a tasting of local wines: start with Dolcetto and Barbera, move on to Nebbiolo, and finish with the elegant Barbaresco. You’ll notice the difference in the grapes and terroir in every sip.

Meet the People Behind the Wine

One of my favorite parts of wine is that the best bottles are often inseparable from the people who make them.

Throughout the Langhe, generations of families have worked the same hillsides, farming vines and producing wines that reflect their particular corner of Piemonte.

I want you to meet those people.

Rather than visiting wineries simply because they are famous, I select producers based on the quality of their wines, their philosophy and the experience they offer my guests.

We may visit a small family-run estate where the winemaker still works in the vineyards and personally welcomes us into the cellar.

You might taste wines with a member of the family who has been making Nebbiolo for generations.

You may walk through the vineyard, look inside the cellar and hear stories about the land, the vintage and the challenges of making wine in the Langhe.

These are the moments that turn a wine tasting into a genuine experience.

Barbaresco in the Morning

We’ll typically begin in the Barbaresco wine region, where we’ll visit a carefully selected local producer.

Here, you’ll have the opportunity to see how the wines are made and taste a selection of the estate’s wines, including Barbaresco DOCG.

I’ll explain the landscape, the vineyards and the differences between Barbaresco and its neighbor, Barolo, while we taste.

But most importantly, you’ll have time to ask questions and actually talk about the wines.

This isn’t a rushed tasting at a crowded counter.

It’s an opportunity to slow down and discover what makes Barbaresco unique.

A Great Piedmontese Lunch

Wine is only half of the Langhe experience.

The other half is food.

At lunchtime, we’ll stop at one of my favorite local restaurants, selected for the quality of its traditional Piedmontese cooking and its connection to the region.

Think seasonal ingredients, handmade pasta, local specialties and dishes designed to be enjoyed alongside the wines of Piemonte.

I’ll take care of the reservation so you can simply sit down, relax and enjoy lunch.

An Afternoon in Barolo

After lunch, we’ll continue into the Barolo wine region.

We’ll visit another carefully selected producer, often a smaller family-run winery where you can get a more intimate look at the people and traditions behind Barolo.

We’ll taste Nebbiolo and Barolo while exploring the character of the estate and the surrounding vineyards.

As we travel through the Langhe, I’ll also point out the villages, vineyards and landscapes that have made this area a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And if there’s a beautiful viewpoint along the way, we’ll stop.

This is your private day in Piemonte. We don’t need to rush past the scenery just to stay on an inflexible itinerary.
