Only One Day in Langhe? Here’s the Perfect Wine Tour Itinerary

You’ve got just one day in the Langhe—and you want to make the most of it. What better way than with a guided Langhe wine tour focused on the region’s most iconic names: Barolo and Barbaresco?

Whether you prefer to explore Barolo on your own (check out my blog post [here]) or want a curated experience, I’ve got you covered. Reach out to me to organize your one day Langhe wine tour!

How It Works

Your day begins in Alba, the heart of Langhe and the capital of Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Famous for Alba white truffles, this town offers more than just food—it’s steeped in history.

Founded in 89 B.C. as Alba Pompeia, the city still follows the Roman hexagonal layout. The main streets, Via Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Cavour, echo the ancient Roman roads. But the most striking part of town? Its medieval towers—remnants of a time when noble families competed for power by building the tallest tower-houses. Think of it as Game of Thrones: Langhe Edition.

Start your day with a relaxing walk along Alba’s pedestrian streets. Head down Via Cavour to Piazza Umberto I (locals call it Piazza del Duomo), stopping halfway at Piazza Publio Elvio Pertinace, dedicated to the only Roman emperor born in Alba. Don’t miss the archaeological site of the ancient Roman temple.

Then walk toward Via Vittorio Emanuele II, the main shopping street filled with cozy cafés and pastry shops. Grab a coffee and taste the baci di dama cookies or chocolate truffles—local favorites.

Morning Wine Tasting in Barbaresco

After breakfast, it’s time for your first wine tasting. Drive from Alba to Barbaresco, passing through the UNESCO-listed hills of Langhe. These rolling vineyards are breathtaking year-round—lush green in summer, snow-covered in winter, and blazing with red and gold foliage in autumn. In spring, on clear days, you can even spot the Alps in the distance.

At the winery, enjoy a guided tour by a family member, ending with a tasting of local wines: start with Dolcetto and Barbera, move on to Nebbiolo, and finish with the elegant Barbaresco. You’ll notice the difference in the grapes and terroir in every sip.

Lunch in Langhe

For lunch, I have a few special surprises: a cozy osteria or trattoria, a cheese tasting with a local affineur, or even a meal with a local family.

Choose a long, relaxing lunch with traditional dishes and regional wines, or go for a guided cheese tasting, where you’ll learn about the aging process and hear some fun local stories.

Afternoon: Discover Barolo or Barbera

In the afternoon, we’ll visit a second winery in another famous Piedmont wine region. Depending on your preferences, this could be Barolo or a top Barbera producer.

Barbera wines from this area are rich with notes of plum, dark cherry, red fruit, and—when aged—hints of tobacco, leather, and spice. The region’s lower hills and mild climate make it ideal for this expressive grape.

Let me know if you’d like to book your one day Langhe wine tour or customize it to your tastes. It’s a perfect way to experience the best of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Piedmont wine culture—even in just a day.
